For the trip, I purchased a Sharp MiniDisc recorder, and a set of “Binaural” microphones. The recording quality & portability of this system is amazing. The batteries in my Sharp seemed to last forever. I could record hours of material over the course of a full day on the unit's built-in battery and one AA battery. This page will continue to grow as I get more material converted and edited.

The entire 20 minute trip from Pennsylvania station to South Ferry, including a walk through the station, discussion on how to get there, the purchase of a 1-day pass, and the ride itself. Lots of subtle ambience. Listening to this allows me to picture the entire trip in my mind.

A street musician sings as we pass on our way to the Statue of Liberty. There’s a small glitch in this caused by my rough handling of the MiniDisc recorder. I got better at keeping it steady as the trip progressed.

Sarah asks me who I think Jesus is… and I have no clue. I actually kept the pamphlet she was handing out, though it isn’t worth posting online.

A man approached us on Burbon St. and offered to sing us a song for the price of a beer. “Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay” was one of four or five choices in his repertoire.

The Visitor Centre at White Sands National Park had an interesting series of models which depict the formation of the dunes. This is the complete recorded narration that goes along with the models.

Danny orders super-sized french fries at a McDonalds drive thru and gets a little upset at me for recording it. This McDonalds was actually about an hour away from the dunes.
